Terms of Service

1. What Fold Now is (and isn't)

Fold Now is peer-style accountability support powered by AI, plus (optionally) a read-only window into your bank transactions. It is not medical care, therapy, treatment, clinical advice, or crisis intervention. It does not replace professional help.

2. Who can use it

• You must be 18 or older
• You must have the right to share the bank account you connect
• You agree to use the service for personal recovery support, not for circumventing self-exclusion lists, evading creditors, or any unlawful purpose

3. Your account

Your "account" is the Telegram chat between you and the bot. You're responsible for keeping your Telegram credentials secure. If someone else has access to your Telegram, they have access to your Fold Now conversation. Anyone with your phone can also read it.

4. Bank connections

We use Plaid to connect to your bank. When you link an account:

• You authenticate directly with your bank or with Plaid — we never see your login
• We receive a read-only access token, transaction history, and balance information
• We can never move money, change account details, or open accounts on your behalf
• You can disconnect at any time via /connect off in the bot

5. AI responses

The "sponsor" is powered by Anthropic's Claude. It is a language model. It can be wrong, miss context, or say things that don't fit your situation. Treat its suggestions as input from a peer, not as advice from a professional. If something it says doesn't sit right, ignore it and talk to someone qualified.

We send your recent conversation and a short summary of detected transactions to Claude when generating responses. Anthropic does not use this data to train models. See our Privacy Policy for details.

6. Sponsor escalation

If you add a human sponsor, we may send them a Telegram message when you don't respond to a check-in within the window you chose (default: 5 minutes for high-severity signals, 15 minutes for medium). The escalation message includes the type of signal, not full transaction details. You can remove your sponsor at any time.

7. Subscription and billing

When billing launches, Fold Now will cost $10/month per user. Billing terms will be presented at signup and integrated into these Terms. Until then, use is free.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Connect bank accounts you don't own or have permission to use
• Use the service to facilitate gambling-related fraud, money laundering, or evasion of legal obligations
• Reverse-engineer, scrape, or attempt to compromise the service
• Harass the sponsor bot or use it in ways that could harm other users

We may suspend or delete your account if you do.

9. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will accurately detect every concerning transaction. We do not guarantee any specific recovery outcome.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Fold Now and its operator are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the prior 12 months (which may be zero).

10. Changes and termination

We may update these Terms; if we make material changes we'll update the date above and notify active users via the bot. You may stop using the service and delete your data at any time by sending /delete.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute that can't be resolved informally goes to the state or federal courts of San Francisco County, California.
